Purpose and Background
Guided Merge is an enhancement to ActiveControl’s existing Merge capability. It addresses the need to merge changes across landscapes at object level, while still giving users control over conflicts and exceptional cases.
This feature is particularly important for:
• Customers migrating from ChaRM Retrofit, which offers similar capabilities.
• Customers with multi track or complex landscapes and high volumes of transports waiting to be merged.
Why Guided Merge?, Existing (Standard) Merge in ActiveControl is:
• Typically, automated and operated at the transport level.
• Centrally focused on creating a merge TOC and adding all objects into it.
• Less suitable for high-volume, object level and nuanced remediation.
Guided Merge extends this by:
• Introducing a stateful, step-by-step UI (the “Guided Merge editor”).
• Operating at object level, with per object remediation.
• Supporting Workbench/Customizing merge requests as receiving transports, not only TOCs.
• Enforcing additional safety and governance rules (e.g., preventing transport travel for partially merged transports).
