Discovery Mode

Introduction

This section of the Admin Guide covers the installation, set-up and use of the Discovery Mode for Testimony.

One of the challenges in using Testimony is determining the best recording window, i.e., when, and for how long, should you run a Testimony recording in order to ensure that Testimony is capturing enough of the most critical business processes & transactions to make your testing as relevant as possible? To assist with making this decision, we have introduced Discovery Mode for Testimony. It is delivered as part of the Testimony installation package, but is also delivered as a standalone transport that can be imported even before the main Testimony transports so that you can begin to retrieve and analyse the data required to aid in your decision as to the best recording window(s). Most importantly, Discovery Mode doesn’t require the import of any transports into your production system. All of the code, etc., for Discovery Mode is installed on a central system. An RFC connection from this system to your production system is then used to call SAP-standard function modules to retrieve the performance data necessary for the tool.
