Business Roles (and User assignments) are used within various parts of ActiveControl, including:
- Within the Rules Engine approvals consumer, to define who can approve in the Inboxes and Outboxes in the workflow.
- Within the Rules Engine testing consumer, to automatically add testers to Business Tasks.
- To define recipients for Custom email notifications.
Business Roles and the associated User assignments should not be confused with SAP user roles and assignments, however it is possible to link these entities by using the optional capability detailed in this online Knowledge Article.

Configuration
Business Roles are typically maintained via the Business Roles app tile on the Administration screen.
