Domain Controller

Like the SAP Transport Management System (TMS) , ActiveControl has the concept of a Domain Controller.

The Domain Controller does not need to be configured in any special way, it is simply the SAP system that the ActiveControl client software connects to, and is where the majority of ActiveControl configuration and application data is stored. The server software runs mostly within the ActiveControl domain controller. When necessary, the domain controller connects to the Satellite SAP systems (ie the systems to be managed via ActiveControl) to gather transport request information and to perform transports. These connections are made using SAP’s remote function call (RFC) protocol.

*It is common within many Basis Technologies customers for their Solution Manager system to be used as the ActiveControl domain controller, however this is not mandatory; the reality is the ActiveControl domain controller can be any ABAP system with high availability and in which all the ActiveControl users have an SAP user account. Increasing numbers of customers are using other systems like S/4HANA or GRC as their ActiveControl Domain Controller.

*There is no requirement for the ActiveControl domain controller and TMS domain controller to be the same SAP system. In fact, a single ActiveControl domain controller can manage transports for multiple TMS domains.

! SAP Note 1965180 might need to be applied in the Domain Controller system as part of a Web Platform deployment – where this was not previously required in the legacy WebUI. Please refer here for further information.

User Accounts

All ActiveControl users will require a user account in the domain controller system with a valid email address in order to receive email notifications. Each user must also be assigned with the relevant ActiveControl single or composite role(s) to reflect their job function and the access they need to the various functionality within ActiveControl. This is described in more detail in the Security Authorisation Concept section of this Administration Guide.
