Manual Resequence

As mentioned in the Transport Sequencing and Dependencies section of this User Guide, the default sequencing of transports for import within ActiveControl is based on the release date/time of the transports.

It is possible to adjust this default sequencing by using Transport Form dependencies, and also Business Task Dependencies. Additionally, it is also already historically possible to revert back to a completely manual sequence of deployments set by the Customer instead of using the ActiveControl sequencing. This is something that some customers have achieved over the years through the use of a Transport Form custom field (to set the numerical sequence) and the “Import one request at a time” import method that imports based on the sequence seen on screen rather than the ActiveControl calculated order. This can be useful for specific deployments – typically larger deployments of project transports – where manually setting dependencies would be time-consuming and onerous.

ActiveControl 9.10 introduced a new Manual Resequence capability for the customers that want to avoid the need for custom fields. This can be done via authorised users in the Global View, via the Manual Resequence button available in an Import Queue.

Recommended points of process

The use of manual sequencing should be done as part of a controlled process, using the following recommended steps:

1) Lock down the previous control point using ShiftLeft: Lock Control Point / Import Queue (0027). This is recommended to avoid additional transports being added to the Import Queue during the process.
2) Build the manual sequence via the Manual Resequence screen.
3) Perform Import using the ‘Import one request at a time’ import method. This is the only import method that imports based on order seen on screen rather than the AC calculated order.
4) Switch off the 0027 analyser when import completed.

! Manual Sequence order cannot be used with automated schedules. It should be done in a controlled environment via a manual import.

* For the majority of ActiveControl customers that want to use the ActiveControl calculated sequence to determine their deployment sequencing, Manual Sequencing can be switched off via Feature Deactivation flag.
